Tour details

A seven day cultural heritage walking trail bringing people of different nationalities and backgrounds together to gain a life changing experience and to gain a better understanding of the land from an indigenous cultural perspective.

The Lurujarri Heritage Trail was initiated in 1987 by Paddy Roe, aiming to reconnect the Goolarabooloo community with the Country through walking and storytelling.

The trail traces the path of the traditional Song Cycle, passing through ancient campsites that have been used for millennia and fishing reefs that remain as they always were. Along the dunes, middens filled with fragments of shells, spearheads, charcoal, flint, and grinding stones reveal the enduring presence of occupation throughout the ages.

The dunes are also the resting place of elders who lived on Country for generations, buried in the old camps that are now carefully preserved and respected as sacred sites.
